8/25/2011:

Please visit our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Elegua-Duo/91522997510) for the first of several rounds of photos from our tour!   We had a delightful time during our stay at Hill & Hollow Music - hosted by the stellar duo that is Angela Brown and Kellum Smith.  Our residency included a house concert, three offshoot recitals and, dare we say, a fun recording session with the amazingly talented NCPR Production Manager, Mr. Joel Hurd.

6/16/2011:

Greetings to all beloved Elegua Duo followers and supporters!  Ginevra and I are really looking forward to our summer 2011 adventures and would like to keep you posted on some specifics.

Traditionally, we go to the Adirondacks of upstate New York each summer for a week or two, spending the first day or two rehearsing, then touring from town to town, sharing our music with communities in performance.   We concertize in a variety of venues, including arts centers, churches, museums, and concert halls.  Last summer, we had the pleasure of performing house concerts thanks to various generous patrons requesting to host us throughout the Adirondacks.  These concerts naturally generated a fresh, intimate setting for music making for both the duo and our audience.

This summer, we're delighted to participate in a wide array of events.  We'll spend the bulk of our concert week in Saranac, New York, where we will be artists in residence at Hill and Hollow retreat, courtesy of Angela Brown (http://www.hillandhollowmusic.com/).  During our stay, we will venture out to perform at Uihlein Medical Center on Tuesday 8/2, as well as a house concert at the home of Dorit Gaetke on Wednesday 8/3, both in Lake Placid.  We will also perform via the Long Lake Friends of Music at the Long Lake Methodist Church on Thursday 8/4 (http://mylonglake.com/calendar-of-events/), and finish up our week with a Hill and Hollow house concert on Friday 8/5 and recording session with North Country Public Radio on Saturday 8/6, also at Hill and Hollow (links to past recordings: http://search.northcountrypublicradio.org/search?q=elegua+duo&client=default_frontend&proxystylesheet=default_frontend&output=xml_no_dtd&filter=0).  We will post more event details soon, including performance times and addresses.  Ginevra and I are looking forward to an intensive week of rehearsing, performing, seeing friends, and enjoying the beautiful Adirondack mountains.

The duo loves to promote new music.  Two summers ago, Ginevra performed a piece by Glens Falls composer John Coolen.  Last summer, she and I premiered a piece by our mutual composer friend Chris Porter, currently residing in Los Angeles.  This summer, we're thrilled and grateful to perform a piece by my talented friend, former quintet mate, violist, and composer Tim Mauthe.  Tim currently is working toward his doctorate in composition at the Cleveland Institute of Music.  Check out his website to learn more about him:  www.mauthemusic.com

I hope you can make it out to hear us.  We'd love to see you!

Best wishes,

Claire

5/2011:

The Elegua Duo is thrilled to have been selected for a week-long Hill and Hollow Music Artist Retreat in Saranac, NY, from July 31 to August 6, 2011. During this time, we will live in a sprawling 1840's farmhouse in the Saranac Valley of the Adirondack Mountains, and prepare an all-new sonata program for local recitals and an NCPR recording session. Hiking, swimming , and all those other activities of a signature Adirondack summer are also on the agenda! A big thanks to NCPR's Production Manager, Joel Hurd, and Hill and Hollow's director, Angela Brown, for making this fantastic experience possible! We really hope you can join us, and will soon post details regarding dates and places to catch an Elegua Duo performance.

Our Adirondack touring project is discussed in Beyond Talent: Creating a Successful Career in Music, by Angela Beeching, and now out on Oxford University Press in its 2nd edition!!

Angela has been a fantastic mentor for the duo on the How-To's of music entrepreneurship, and this book is a no-nonsense guide for the same...what goes in a press kit, branding, financial management, grant-writing, it's all there.

7/21/10: We recently finished our July tour of the Adirondacks, inspired by new music, new scenes and new friends. Many thanks to all of you who came out to see us. Please keep in touch! We'd also like to thank Lake Placid physician Dorit Gaedtke for organizing an exciting chamber music jam session, house concert and fantastic dinner; North Country Public Radio's Production Manager extraordinaire Joel Hurd for coming out on a scorching hot Sunday afternoon to record our Cabin in the Woods recital; and Director Emeritus of the Old Forge Arts Center, Miriam Kashiwa, for being an incredible host at her Cabin in the Woods concert series.

On July 9, we are trying something new! We are joining arts patroness Dorit Gaedtke in her Lake Placid home for a combination chamber music reading session and dinner with our host and friends at 4:00 p.m. Following at 8:00 p.m.,we will perform an intimate house concert of Rachmaninov's cello sonata, Stravinsky's Suite Italienne, and Caryatid, a piece written for us by our composer friend Chris Porter.  We met Ms. Gaedtke at our first summer concert at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake in 2008, where she expressed her warm enthusiasm for the music and our work, and invited us to perform a concert at her Lake Placid home. We are really looking forward to meeting Ms. Gaedtke's guests, and we are delighted at the opportunity to share and enjoy music in such a great setting!

We just finished our delightful tour of the Adirondacks, during which we played concerts in towns from Saranac Lake to Lake Placid to Essex, New York. We had the opportunity to meet Joel Hurd, North Country Public Radio's Production Manager, who expertly recorded our Saranac Lake concert at St. Bernard's Church. We will keep you posted as to when the recording will be broadcast. We also had an especially great time in Essex, where we were hosted by the Essex Community Concert Series, and played an evening recital for a lovely and lively audience. A detour into Vermont was taken the next day for some wine-tasting and blueberry-picking.
